The city of Cusco attracts travellers who come not just to visit a unique destination but also to experience an ancient culture very different from their 20th century way of life; This city was the capital of the Tawantinsuyo: the whole territory of the Incas between the XII and XVI century. Cusco means female navel, because the Incas thought that Cusco was the center of the Universe.

Cusco is located at 3,400 meter above sea level where 350,000 inhabitants live actually. At Cusco there are numerous colonial churches one of the city’s most common sights is the Cathedral located at the main square which was started to build in 1560 and took 94 years to finish; in the cathedral we still can see over 400 canvases of the XVI and XVII century, most of them belongs to the Cusco painting school many of them of the famous Cusquenian artist Diego Quispe Tito. The cathedral is also one of the city’s greatest repositories of colonial art. The main ruin within is that of the Coricancha, once the Inca Empire’s richest temple. Today the ruin forms the base of the colonial church of Santo Domingo.

During Inca times this temple was literally covered with gold and silver, but within months of the arrival of the first conquistadors this incredible wealth had all been melted down. It is left to the individual imagination to imagine the magnificence of the original structure. There are several good museums in Cusco like: the Archaeological Museum, Inca museum, art museum, the Regional History Museum and the Religious Art Museum. As well you can participate from some adventure like rafting or mountain bike.
