Overview – Machupicchu Tour

The seven-day Machupicchu Tour & Amazon Trip takes you to explore the two most beautiful regions of South America: The Andes and the jungle; unlock the secrets of the many mystic sights as you visit Cusco city, ramble over the ruins of Machu Picchu, and the Jungle in the lowland of Puerto Maldonado. Machupicchu Tour & Amazon Trip begins when you arrive to Cusco airport and you will be transferred to your hotel. On the first day you can rest to get use to the altitude or wonder around the city (optional city tour program).

The second day you will travel through the sacred Valley of the Incas, full day you will be accompanied with a stunning mountain landscape; then you´ll continue the trip to the picturesque town of Aguas Calientes a great place to walk around and see the wild life; the next day we will take the firs bus up to stunning Machupichu to see the sunrise and visit before the crowd arrive from Cusco at midday. The tour within Machupicchu will be for two hours approximately and then you will have free time to explore alone or you can hike Waynapicchu Mountain (check availability). In Puerto Maldonado you will learn from the guide while you explore the deepest of the Amazon jungle.

BRIEF ITINERARY

Day 1.- Cusco

Arrive to Cusco at any time we must know your fly details; our staff will wait for you in the airport of Cusco city. Today there are not planet activities.

Day 2.- Sacred Valley of the Incas

Today will be full day tour through the stunning valley where you can see agricultural places, picturesque towns, and local markets. You will learn Incas history from your guide while you visit the Inca ruins.

Day 3 – 4.- Machupicchu Tour

Board the morning train to the picturesque town of Aguas Calientes and you can wonder around; the next day very early take a bus to see the sunrise at Machupicchu and visit before all the people arrive at noon from Cusco.

Day 5 – 6.- Amazon Jungle

After breakfast we head to the airport and flight 45 minutes to the lowlands of Puerto Maldonado, then explore with the monkey island and hike through the Amazon jungle.

Day 7.- Depart Puerto Maldonado

After breakfast you will be transported to Puerto Maldonado airport and return to Cusco or Lima; it´s subject to your itinerary.

Arrive to Cusco

Machupicchu Tour & Amazon Trip begins when you arrive to Cusco at any time; however we must know your flight details; our staff will wait for you in the airport of Cusco and will transfer you to the hotel. Today there is not planet activities so, you can rest or wondering around and enjoy the city (optional the city tour in the afternoon); this tour start at 1:30pm; you will have the opportunity to see the cathedral located in the main square, the Corikancha or temple of the sun of the Incas, the fortress of Sacsayhuaman, Qenqo, Tambomachay and Pucapucara. Cusco is the continent’s oldest continuously inhabited city; the Cusco city attracts travellers who come not just to visit a unique destination but also to experience an age-old culture very different from their 20th century way of life; this lovely Inca and colonial town offers much to the visitor with its nearby ruins, cobble-stoned streets, museums, churches and lively atmosphere. Among the more adventurous optional activities available in Cusco are: City tour around archaeological sites such as Sacsayhuaman, Qenqo, Tambomachay and Puca Pucara; white water rafting on the Urubamba River; and mountain biking down to the Sacred Valley of the Incas; There are several good museums in Cusco like: the Archaeological Museum, art museum, the Regional History Museum and the Religious Art Museum.

Sacred Valley of the Incas: Cusco – Pisaq – Urubamba – Ollantaytambo.

Called also Urubamba valley is located near Cusco city; where the agricultural cattlemen and beautiful towns were concentrated since Inca times; the tour start at 8:30am when we pick you up from the hotel and travel toward the stunning valley, which was an important cradle of food for the Incas, the Sacred Valley is a lush agricultural region that continues to supply the city of Cusco with much of its produce especially with corn and vegetables. Visit the extraordinary Pisac Inca ruins and the colorful artisan market where you can purchase some handicrafts directly from the producers. The day trip finishes in the picturesque village of Ollantaytambo, we also will visit the Ollantaytambo Inca ruins that is known as the best surviving example of Inca urban planning and engineering. Ollantaytambo Inca ruins is admired for its huge steep terraces guarding the Inca Fortress and for being one of the few places where the Spanish lost a major battle during the conquest.

Machupicchu trip: Ollantaytambo – Aguas Calientes – Machupicchu – Cusco.

We will board the morning train to the picturesque town of Aguas Calientes town; the next day very early take bus to see the sunrise at Machu Picchu and visit before all the people arrive at noon from Cusco. In the morning we´ll take the train to the picturesque town of Aguas Calientes; the train winds through the Urubamba valley for two hours. Once we arrive to Aguas Calientes town you´ll have accommodation in the hotel; in the afternoon you can wondering around the town or you can hike two hours to the waterfall of Mandorpampa (1950masl) where you will see plenty of birds and hummingbirds; if you are in good physical condition you can climb Putucusi Mountain and see Machu Picchu from the other site.

Machupicchu trip: Ollantaytambo – Aguas Calientes – Machupicchu – Cusco.

The next day we will get up very early, have breakfast at 5:30am and take the early bus for 25 minutes up to Machupicchu to see the sunrise and explore before the crowd arrive from Cusco at midday. The tour within Machupicchu will be for two hours approximately after that you will have your free time to explore by yourself; later you will take the bus down to Aguas Calientes town to enjoy your lunch and then you must head to the train station to return to Cusco; you will arrive to Cusco in the evening and you will be transferred to the hotel. Machupicchu is Quechua word that means Old Mountain. It´s located at 2,400masl in the Peruvian rainforest; the weather is normally warm. Machupicchu was discovered at 1911 by American historian Mr. Hiram Bingham; at 1912 Bingham started the exploration and excavations within Machupicchu and after the arduous work he reported 184 mummies most of them were buried in the caves, some of the caves were natural and others carved for that purpose. According Bingham osteologists 80% of the mommies belongs to females and 15% to males and 5% had no identification he suggest perhaps were children; for this reason Bingham setup hypothesis of Machupicchu as a dwelling place of the choosing woman of the Inca empire.

Day 5 – 6.- Jungle trip: Cusco Puerto Maldonado – Amazon Jungle – Cusco.

The Puerto Maldonado reserve is one of the most remote zones in South America, offering adventurous travelers an outstanding chance to engage with the natural wonders of the Amazon. After breakfast you will be transferred to the airport of Cusco for a 45 minutes flight to the lowlands of Puerto Maldonado; our staff will receive you and take you in short tour through Puerto Maldonado city; if you have all your belongs with you, it is possible to leave some of them in our office at Puerto Maldonado and carry just small bag pack to the Lodge. The journey on the motor boat will be for approximately two hours through the Madre de Dios River observing the jungle; once we arrive to the lodge you will have lunch and then head to the monkey island; this tour will be for 3 hour. The following day you will explore the jungle with a naturalist as a guide; this exploration includes the hike through the jungle and sailing on the lagoons where you will see different types of turtles, etc.

Day 7.- Depart Puerto Maldonado

After breakfast you will be transported to Puerto Maldonado city to pick up your belong and later to the airport and return to Cusco or Lima.
